On February 12th, the 15th Technical Rice Conference organized by IRTA was held in the Tarragona town of Deltebre, attended by some 250 producers, technicians and companies linked to the sector.
During the day, various topics were addressed, such as the various studies on certain diseases that affect the cultivation of rice, such as Pyricularia or sustainable fungicidal strategies. Both, organic fertilization and the control of weeds when it was planted in dry, were other subjects treated during the day, as well as the mitigation of climate change in rice fields.
The NEURICE project was present offering information on the progress and work that is being carried out to achieve varieties of salt-tolerant rice that offer productive guarantees and which, in addition, could be a hope against the pest of the apple snail .
Regarding the apple snail, which affects the crops of the Ebro Delta, the last results obtained with the use of hydrogen peroxide, as well as a new product that is close to the market, showed Good results and hopes for better control of the plague, since the biological fight with nematodes has not yielded results.
